Bathing your baby

Motherhood is full of challenges, and the tasks that seem easy and convenient, are actually the most challenging ones. As for taking care of your baby, shopping for baby bath accessories in Malaysia is the easy part. The more difficult parts? Well, there are quite a lot, and bathing a baby is one of them.

So, how often do you need to bath your little one?
It’s really up to you how often you are planning to bath your baby. Plenty of babies enjoy being in the water, others do not. Don’t worry. You don’t need to bath your infant child every single day. 2 to 3 times each week is enough to keep her happy and clean.

Note: Focus on baby skin care. If you are settling in a hard water area, using tons of tap water may damage and dry out the skin of your baby.

In between baths:

  • wipe grime off her skin
  • wash the face of your baby regularly
  • clean your baby’s bottom and genitals right after every nappy change

Bathing your baby would require tons of confidence and practice. Of course, handling a wet, slippery and wriggling baby is not easy. Give your baby some time. Soon, she will calm down, and enjoy bath time.

How often should you wash your baby’s hair?

There is no need to wash the hair of your child every single day.

Baby hair produces little oil, so 1 or 2 times a week is fine.

Reminder: If your baby has eczema, use an emollient instead of baby shampoo.

What’s the best way to give my baby a bath?

There are quite a lot of things you need to prepare before bathing your baby. Here are some of them:

  • A bath thermometer for testing water temperature
  • Clean clothes and nappy
  • Warm blanket, in case it’s cold
  • One bowl of warm water to wash your baby’s face
  • Many clean cotton pads
  • A flannel or sponge
  • A gentle bath emollient, or liquid baby cleanser to protect your baby’s natural skin barrier
  • One dry towel
